2021 Northern Rhône
The Northern Rhône has surprised and delighted us in 2021. The whites are truly wonderful, but drastically restricted in volume. The reds show cooler alcohols than recent years, fine-grained tannins, crunchy red fruit, and admirable restraint in the use of new oak. Their slender frames and attractive fresh bite echo vintages of the 1990s, as well as 2016.
Here we feature sixteen growers, who all embraced the challenges of the year, and came out on top. You’ll find a balance of historic names and young estates, from each of the Northern Rhône’s great appellations. Many of the wines are available only in tiny quantities: we encourage you to make your selection early.
